I went to my first kickboxing class with my friend and it was great! We both really enjoyed the workout and are looking forward to going again. We both found a deal on Groupon for 10 classes, but I have a feeling we might keep going after our Groupon deal runs out. Well, I think I will anyway.
First, I’ll say that the place was very clean and nicer than what I was expecting for a “gym”. It was super loud in there, but once I began the workout, I didn’t mind that at all. The loud music ended up adding to the experience for me.
The class begins with a warm-up – about 20 minutes and it’s the hardest part of the class! Constant movement – running, burpees, squats, planks, push-ups, sit-ups, lunges.
Afterwards, we stretched out and then went into the actual kickboxing.
There’s different rounds (I think that’s what they called them) on the boxing “bag” and since we were new, ours were different from the others in class. Some rounds were different punches and others kicking and the last round had both punches and kicks. I felt that it was a fun way to burn calories. Some people in class weren’t hitting the bag too hard. I hit it as hard as I could because I wanted to get a lot from the workout and plus it felt really good to hit it hard. 🙂
After our time on the bag, we partnered up and did some drills with punching and blocking and ended the class by stretching.
I wore my Garmin watch and according to its calculations I burned about 330 calories in the hour, which is good but I was hoping for more. Maybe I’ll burn more next time? We’ll see.
