Adventureland

Adventureland

Yesterday we celebrated our son’s 4th birthday at Adventureland on Long Island and it was so much fun! I figured I’d write a blog about it just in case any of my followers are in the NY/Long Island area and are looking for a party venue for their children.

Let me start off by saying, the staff at Adventureland was very nice and helpful from the start to the end! Booking the party was easy and they answered all my questions – great customer service. When I booked I asked about a party room and was told it books way in advance. I was bummed about having to share an open space with other parties but figured it wasn’t a deal breaker.

Fast forward to the day of the party… After checking us in with the party office, all the guests received their ride bracelets. We paid for 2 hours of rides instead of the standard 1 hour and I’m so glad we did because let me tell you, time at an amusement park goes by so quickly! Lines for the rides weren’t too long but it still takes time to go from ride to ride with a group of kiddos! For the most part our group did stay together.

After the 2 hours, it’s time to go back to the restaurant area (where the party office is). To our surprise, they set you the party room for us! The room was away from all the other parties and has kid friendly murals on the walls – very festive. They assigned staff to our group and took the orders for food and drinks. Service was really great.

They do not supply birthday cake so we brought one with us and they brought that our after lunch so we could sing Happy Birthday. After we sang and my son made his wish they served the cake to the guests.

All around a great experience and a lot of happy children!

Plum smoothie

As promised, here’s the smoothie recipe for the smoothie I made this morning! I felt that the plum was the star so that’s why I named it as such.

I made mine with vanilla plant based protein powder, but you can leave that out if you’d like.

Plum Smoothie

Yields 2 servings

  • One plum
  • One peach
  • One cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
  • One cup frozen strawberries
  • Scoop of protein powder

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Blood type diet

Blood type diet

Have you heard of the blood type diet? I was talking with my sister the other day and she said she heard about it on the radio. People were calling into the radio station saying how they follow this diet and it’s changed their lives (for the better). Apparently there’s a book and people have made apps for it.

I’m by no means an expert and I haven’t read the popular book. However, I did download an app and looked at the list of foods that it claims I should be eating and the ones that I should avoid.

According to the app I downloaded, I fall into the “balanced omnivore” category.

Here’s a quick summary…

Meats

The most beneficial meats for my blood type is lamb, mutton, venison and rabbit.

This app is saying I should avoid chicken! I eat chicken every week so that would be really hard for me to give up if I followed this.  They say to eat beef, pheasant, turkey and veal instead of chicken. Also on the do not eat list: Cornish hens, Partridge, pork, goose and duck. It claims these foods contain a blood agglutinating lectin.

Seafood

The app says that deep ocean fish and white fish are great for my blood type. This includes salmon, cod, rainbow trout, sea trout, flounder, halibut and sole.

On their do not eat list –  the list is quite long but the ones that stood out to me were shrimp, lobster, clams, crab, octopus and scallops. The others on the long list didn’t bother me because I never eat them.

The app goes on to list foods to eat and not eat for all other food categories. Fruit, veggies, dairy, grains, fats, oils, nuts, beans, spices, condiments and even beverages.

I’m not sure if I’ll follow the blood type diet but I o find it very intriguing. If any of you have tried, comment below and share your experience!

Fall is almost here

Fall is almost here
